Here’s your chance to share the secrets of your success with the world (or at least the blogging part of it). There’s a project going round to collect the secrets of success, the 5-10 things that you do daily (or at least most days) to add that little bit of magic.
I hesitate to set myself up as an example of success but here are the things I do most days to keep myself on track:
- Look for things I can learn – I read constantly, books, papers, internet, news and am nearly always studying something or other
- Have a pen and paper ready – ideas, words, stories pop up at any moment and I hate to lose them!
- Check in with my values – does doing this reflect my core values, what I want to be doing, how I choose to be living? This can take you in strange directions but it’s the only way I know to stay true to my own story
- Focus – on the human being that is a client, reader, or potential client, and concentrate on the unique and amazing story that they hold inside them. This is a great state to be in for one-to-one work, and writing with rapport
- Do some things just because I want to – it’s great to take some time out from the day and do things just because you can. Also a great antidote to the burden of ‘shoulds’
- Spend time outside – there’s always some inspiration to be found in the natural world, even if it’s just watching the ants hard at work or listening to a blackbird sing in pure delight
I got tagged to add mine by by Blog Angel Claire, and then saw from Hilda at Living Out Loud that the whole thing is being run by Aaron Potts at Today Is That Day.
He’s had a great response – so great he’s now set a deadline – you’ll need to post by 10 May if you want your secrets counted. (Just remember to trackback to his post so he can pick up your contribution.)
You can tag yourself if you want to join in, meantime I’m tagging Thomas at Achievement in Mind and Margaret Ntifo - Thomas is a brain optimizer and Margaret a wealth and prosperity mentor so we should learn a lot from their secrets!
Hi Joanna
That’s a good list there. Ah, the blackbirds singing. There’s nothing like it. I’ve added my five things over at howtoitaly.typepad.com so I’ll also add a trackback back your list, too.
Emma
Hi Emma, it’s good to hear from you again.
I’d love to know what birdsong you enjoy from your window on the world in Italy?
Joanna
Joanna,
Thanks for participating in the Simply Successful Secrets project and I’m glad you got to get in before the deadline. The response has indeed been wonderful and I think it would have kept going around the Internet for years if I hadn’t put a cap on it!
Of all of the great things on your list, I liked your idea of checking in with your values the best. That is such wonderful advice because everything else will flow from that as long as each person is true to who they are. Sound wisdom that I am glad will be shared with many others when all is said and done.
Look for the final post with all of the success secrets to be put up on my blog on May 16th. I’m looking forward to bringing this amazing amount of wisdom all together under one URL!

Hi Aaron, thanks for calling by – you will be busy if you are trying to comment on everyone’s post! I guess the project took off because you asked a question that got us thinking (coaches love good questions). I suspect that it will keep bouncing round the net for a good while yet, even though you’re no longer capturing the answers. You’ll be able to sit back and watch it grow and evolve once your own bit of the work is done.
Joanna
Hi Joanna,
I cannot help but comment on how important it is to live a life that is in alignment with your personal core values, and most importantly to even know what your personal core values are. Most people don’t.
I truly believe that the first step in creating true prosperity is knowing what your personal core values are. Even before defining your goals. This is a more deliberate and focussed approach to goal setting that not only gives you absolute clarity about your future, but lays a firmer foundation for achieving any goal.
The best thing I ever did was to take the time to determine my own personal core values and rank them in order of priority. It was like getting to know myself all over again, and everything I did from that point forward I did with a new understanding, and inner knowing.
Life is much more joyful when you are in touch with WHO YOU ARE. I believe it all starts with knowing what your values are and being true to yourself.
Remember this: “To Thine Own Self Be True, Then It Follows As The Night And The Day That You Shall Be Sinful To No Man.”?
Goals are important, but first KNOW what your values are!
Margaret
